Rival cult groups, Eiye and Ake confraternities operating in Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State on Thursday engaged in a deadly fight over girlfriend rows. One person’s genital was slashed during the fight.

According to eyewitnesses, six people were injured, while seven were arrested and are presently being held by the police.

The fight started after one of the cult members identified as Raraye hit the girlfriend of a rival cult member.

Reports said the incident paralyzed working activities in Sapele and its environs as residents scampered for safety amidst broken bottles and gunfire.

The police commissioner in the State, Alkale Baba Usman confirmed the incident to journalists, saying seven of the cultists were arrested and are helping the police for investigation.

While warning that the police will do everything possible to arrest the fleeing cultists, the police boss disclosed that the police recovered six battle axes, machetes, and six cut-to-size guns at the scene of the incident, adding that the suspects will be charged to court on completion of investigation.

Investigations revealed that Sapele has recently become a Mecca of sorts for cultists and other its related act where in the past three years no fewer than twenty-six persons killed in cold blood.

Speaking further, the police boss identified flash points, such as Ogwashi-Uku, Ebus, and some part of Asaba and Okpanam community, adding that efforts have been put in place to bring the cult perpetrators in the areas to book.
