A mother has been sentenced to life in prison for killing her one-month-old daughter by putting her in the microwave.
Ka Yang, 34, was found guilty in November of first degree murder and assault on a child after baby Mirabelle Thao-Lo was found dead at the family home in Sacremento, California, in March 2011.
Evidence presented at her trial revealed the baby girl was discovered with burns covering 60% of her body, including radiation burns, but her hair and clothing were not singed.
Murdered: Baby Mirabelle Thao-Lo
A dummy was found in the microwave. The infant is believed to have been put inside the cooker for between two and a half and five minutes.
Yang initially told investigators she had been working at a computer with Mirabelle in her arms when she blacked out.
She claimed she woke to find her daughter injured next to a space heater, according to an affidavit.
Yang did have a history of epileptic seizures, but paramedics said she was not disorientated when they arrived at the home.
After the inconsistencies in her story were pointed out Yang finally admitted she had lied, and suggested she had a split personality.
Married Yang, who has three other children, was sentenced to 26 years to life in prison on Friday.
